Czech Republic Flag

The Czech Republic flag, for all intents and purposes, has remained unchanged since it was introduced in 1920. The flag is identical to the former Czechoslovakia, and was adopted as the official flag of the Czech Republic when the country separated from Slovakia in 1993.

The red and white colors of the flag originate from the Coat of Arms of Bohemia. Since horizontal red and white bars are almost identical to the Polish flag, a blue wedge was added into the design.

This design has been in more or less continuous use since 1920. Exceptions were during the Nazi occupation during World War II and also for a brief time during the early 1990′s when negotiations were developing about the separation of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
